Each day it features a cool new offer at an unbeatable prize in dozens of cities across the world – from theaters, restaurants to spas and beauty salons. Using Groupon is made as easy as could be for the users. You just check the new deal every day and if you like it, you sign up. For each offer there is a minimum number of buyers and when enough people join the deal is activated. Up to this date Groupon has reached subscribers in more than 160 cities across over 20 countries all around the globe.
“Groupon is a great site with a great idea, I love it”, says A.S., one of the website’s regular clients. Surely many people are curious about who has actually developed Groupen, who is behind this online project for millions.
His name is Andrew Mason. Born in Pittsburgh, U.S., he was brought up in a family of entrepreneurs – his father was selling diamonds, and his mother had her own photography business. In 1999 he decided to move to Chicago in order to attend Northwestern University, studying Music.
Andrew Mason loves to say: “Being in a band made my business rock”. In 2007 he started his first online project, called The Point – it was a social-action platform with the main idea users to fund different campaigns. It gained a huge success and was actually an inspiration for the future development of Groupon. Andrew started thinking about making real money and quickly gathered a team. It took them about a month to create the website, to make Andrew’s idea come true, but at this point they realized that without funding their project would soon be dead. Eric Lefkofsky, who later became co-founder and original investor, helped this whole project to come true.
