Gary Goldberg is known for being Founder of CleanBrands – a company, specialized in making
allergy barrier bedding. The 40 year old Founder of this million dollar business hails from a family of textile scientists. Gary actually started his business in an effort to find a solution to his 4 year old son’s allergy problem. His toddler had an allergy that was caused by dust mites. Gary’s research lead him to the fact that 70% of all the allergies suffered by people in America are in a way related to dust mite waste that accumulates in bedding. He was left with no other option but to find a solution to this problem.
His son’s allergy problem which involved several visits to the emergency room at night, kept him motivated to find a permanent solution to the problem. That is how he developed the idea for an allergy barrier bedding product. Even though Gary is not the first person to develop such a product, his bedding does not have the negative features of similar products developed by other manufacturers. For instance, the other products are made from material that is uncomfortable and can not be laundered. Spending almost a year experimenting with various materials, in 2006 Gary developed a
breathable fabric using MicronOne Technology.
JetBlue uses
pillows and blankets made by
CleanBrands. With 550 flights per day, the airline provides massive exposure for CleanBrands’ products. Gray’s company also develops different brands with different price tags that are sold through Wal-Mart and Bed Bath & Beyond. Gary says that the secret to his company’s success is the commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. “You got to be honest with what you do”, he says. Gary does not mind raising the price for his products in order to ensure quality. He is confident that he can convince people to pay a higher price when the quality of the product is assured.
Most of his product ideas were mocked by others when he shared it with them. But he stuck to his convictions and that is what has helped him to bring out innovative products that are changing people’s lives for the better today.
